The County Government of Machakos, in partnership with the South Korea–based NGO I Love Africa, has launched major water infrastructure works aimed at improving access to clean and reliable water for communities in Masinga Sub-County. The event was graced by Lee Chang Ok, the Board President of I Love Africa–South Korea, and officials from the Department of Water, Irrigation, Environment, Sanitation, and Climate Change, led by Director Raphael Mutie, who represented CECM Hon. Onesmus Kuyu.
The partnership marks the beginning of equipping and reticulation works for two critical boreholes: the Wamboo Market Borehole in Ekalakala Ward and the Mbembani Dispensary Borehole in Ndalani Ward. These projects are designed to expand water access to nearby markets, schools, and Level 2 health facilities, addressing long-standing water shortages in the area.
Under the project, both sites will receive solar-powered submersible pumps, two elevated 10,000-litre water tanks per location, and 1.2 kilometres of water reticulation systems to distribute water efficiently to surrounding institutions and communities. By integrating renewable energy and modern water management systems, the initiative not only ensures sustainability but also reduces the operational costs of water supply.
This collaborative effort marks a significant stride in enhancing water security in Machakos County. Once complete, the two boreholes will provide clean, accessible, and reliable water to more than 4,000 residents, improving daily living conditions and supporting local development.
The partnership between the County Government of Machakos and I Love Africa continues to demonstrate what is possible when communities and international partners come together with a shared commitment to improving lives
